An introduction to Kundalini yoga with Torin

November 28, 2021 @ 11:00 am - 12:30 pm

$15

Kundalini yoga derives from kundalini, defined in Vedantic culture as energy that lies dormant at the base of the spine until it is activated and channeled upward through the chakras in the process of spiritual perfection. Kundalini is believed by adherents to be power associated with the divine feminine

In this workshop Torin will give a brief description of Kundalini yoga and of the basic elements of practice and how it differs from other forms of yoga. Your experience begins by tuning in with the Adi mantra and Mangala Charn mantra. You will proceed with a warmup sequence, pranayama, kriya and meditation. Closing with Long time sun and chanting Sat Nam.

More about your presenter Torin:

I began my practice of yoga in the late 1970’s, learning a basic Integral Yoga sequence the practice of which I maintained. I started branching out in the mid 2000’s and took YTT at Kripalu in 2012, Jurian Hughes and Suddha Carolyn Lundeen being the primary instructors. I started taking Kundalini class regularly in September 2018 with Jai Dev, on line, my daily practice being Sat Kriya. I completed Kundalini YTT in June of 2020, Hari Kaur, being the primary teacher. I started Vipassana meditation practice in December, 2013 (as taught by S.N. Goenka). I’ve completed 3/10 unit YTT’s with Yoganand Michael Carroll toward his 500 hour Pranakriya certification those being Pranayama, Pradipika and Bhagavagita.
I’ve been teaching mostly gentle to small groups since 2012, and Kundalini since 2020. I love to share the practices I have found so valuable in my life.
Outside of yoga, I’m a recently retired RN, having worked 30 plus years, mostly in hemodialysis and OR. I have a BS in Biology with a minor in dance from ECSU.
I have had numerous movement passions, including; Jukido, basketball, soccer, contact improv, ice skating and contra dance. Currently my primary movement passion is hiking in the woods with my little dog, Zinni, and foraging for mushrooms.
